All Vegan - VegSanDiego.com

There is something so comforting about walking into a store or restaurant and knowing everything is 100% vegan! San Diego is now lucky to have a storefront completely devoted to carrying nothing but vegan products. What better name for a store of its kind than "All Vegan". Owned and operated in her spare time by San Diego Last Chance for Animals coordinator Joy Zakarian, All Vegan is not meant for profit but instead for outreach. The store has a wall of shoes, a huge variety of awesome belts, purses and gourmet chocolates. All Vegan not only has a lot of classic animal rights-themed t-shirts and bumper stickers but also has several shirts exclusively available in the store. Another unique feature of All Vegan is the viewing area where customers can sit down, relax and watch one of several animal rights videos and DVDs. All Vegan is San Diego's answer to places like Portland's Herbivore, San Francisco's Otsu, NYC's MooShoes, and Costa Mesa's Humanitaire (among others)...a cruelty-free boutique catering to compassionate fashion-conscious shoppers. I've come to know Joy quite well over the years (and she has influenced my purse and shoe collection accordingly) and I find her store to be wonderful. She's constantly adding new products, moving things around, expanding her existing selection, and she's incredibly nice, on top of it. All Vegan's got some great clothes (a lot of Herbivore Clothing items), Matt and Nat and Queen Bee purses, Sparklecraft guitar straps, Earth and Vegetarian Shoes (among others), Osea skin care, Rose City and Dagoba chocolates, Snooty Jewelry, books, dvds...and she's pretty open to suggestions (unfortunately, I wasn't able to convince her to carry Herbivore's 'Praise Seitan' shirts). Ideally, I'd like to see All Vegan carry a few more magazines (like Satya and Bite Back), and maybe a few more documentaries (starting with 'Earthlings'), but hey...I'm not complaining. At least we have All Vegan.

I love this little shop. So many things I've seen online at places like VeganEssentials.com (which also has a great little shop in Milwaukee if you're ever in the area), etc. but always wanted to see or try on in person. The staff are beyond friendly and super helpful. Mostly shoes, t-shirts, belts and bags, but they also have some jewelry by local artisans and some books and fliers/stickers. Just a great place to check out again and again. They've packed a lot into a small space. They lose 1/2 a star only because the location, though near to my house it's not near enough to walk, and the parking selection can be slim pickins.
