New to North park Rancho’s restaurant took over the old Sunshine organic market. A welcome return to north park this store has a variety of produce and health foods. The deli is expanding and is almost entirely vegan and has several vegan sandwiches pre-packed. Rancho’s also offers Mexican specialties, juice bar and catering. |

I love this place. Everyone is so helpful, they carry a huge variety of things, and seniors get a 10% discount on Wednesdays.....Their hot food is good and fairly priced, the salad bars always enticing, and they will make juices to order (e.g., 'not sweet, kale and stuff'; next time I'll ask just what combo they used, so I can repeat it).....The fruit and veggie selection continues to improve, and I love buying small amounts of herbs and spices from jars at the back of the store.....Some things are pricey, but not compared to Whole Foods. They often have samples of goodies at the checkout, deduct 5-10 cents if you bring your own bag (please do), and have a sit-down area inside with plenty of literature to read while you enjoy your purchases or take with you.....I love how the take-out is priced, by weight, so you can have the amount you want.....So far, I've never had anything I didn't like except some broccoli sprouts which were past their prime. (Solve this by turning these upside down to check--they come in see-through plastic clamshell boxes in the fridge section--and, perhaps ask for a discount or avoid.)....Extremely convenient for bus riders--just a few doors North of 30th and University on the #2, and other buses (7 and 10, I think). Back when I was driving, there was parking in the rear alley, and that's probably still there.....I highly recommend you make this store a regular stop, if for no other reason than to support a local business and explore new foods. (It's also a cool place to see young folks with their exotic hair, tats, etc., and a very friendly place where other shoppers often offer advice and everyone is friendly but not cloying.).....Try their refried beans and Spanish rice in the hot food area--just fabulous--even if you are used to preps using animal fat.....While you're there, if you haven't tried it yet, pick up a small spray bottle of Bragg Aminos (near the checkstand). It's fabulous on greens (tastes like soy sauce). |

Rancho's has the healthiest, best fast food in San Diego inside the market at the deli. Incredible juices, too. Try the Jugo de Vampiro...incredible beet juice mixed in with other goodies or their yummy smoothies. Potato tacos are KILLER. DEEElicious soups. Reasonable prices (prepared food is cheaper than Whole Foods). GREAT salad bar. LOVE IT!!!! |

I really enjoy shopping at Rancho's. I am a Raw foodist (%100) since Jan.2,07 and I had a couple of strokes in my recent past. Rancho's makes for a nice trip for me and I enjoy not preparing every meal myself. I have requested a couple of prepared items and lo and behold the next day they were in the refrigerator case. Thank you, thank you Marckos for living the life and being an inspiration to us all. The rotating selection of raw, prepared foods is growing all the time. Thanks to all the raw food preparers, I appreciate all your efforts. The clerks and register folks answer all my questions and are very pleasant. The lectures and books have been informative and I look forward to taking your classes in the future. Thanks again! |

I love this store! They have best variety of Kombachu Tea I've ever seen. The Vegan safe food is the best, I don't worry about getting ill with any of their products! The staff is very helpful! |

I know this is my third review in the past year but so much has improved at Rancho's Natural Foods that it's time to re-evaluate.
Rancho's has become my favorite for anything from raw foods to cooked foods from the hot deli. Over the past 6 months alone, the health of the produce has changed dramatically. The greens, vegetables, and fruits are kept up much better. I find myself recommending the market place to more and more people. Marcos and I are working on a new green juice and green smoothie menu. It might still be a while before that becomes finalized since we are just starting on this new project.
There is so much great variety in this one store you can just shop here and get everything you need from bathroom cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and skincare, to salads, hot foods, juices and prepared raw selections.
Plus, for ethical vegans like myself, Ben has created 'contains honey' signs for the few products that have honey to make shopping that much easier and so we don't eat something we don't expect.
My favorites are the seitan brocoli dishes from the hot bar and anything with nopales, Marcos' recipe for green juice, and the raw organic sesame chocolate milk. |

One benefit in living in Southern California is having easy access to healthy dining and shopping. I try to get to Ranchos everyday for my juiced vegetables. They also offer various brands of Kombucha tea. The workers are very friendly! |

ranchos rules - it has seemed to really get better over the last few years. produce is nearly always in great shape, raw foods galore both in the deli case and as ingredients, friendly employees, and a nice small funky vibe in a world of wholefoods. I like ob peoples too, but ranchos beats it for raw food goodness. also the organic salad bar kicks much butt - 5.49 / lb for awesome organic salad bar is a steal! eating a huge salad with guac in it and all sorts of yums rarely is more than 4 or 5 bucks. I love it! I recommend it! there is always room to improve but I give it 5 stars because its the best in the city! |

My friend and I each had a potato taco, a soda and shared a huge peice of Pizza with the works for less than $5.25 each! There is indoor and outdoor seating. The hotcase selcetion varies, but always has lots to choose from. They also have hot soups, a cold salad bar (fresh salsa, pototo salad...) a green salad bar, a juice bar...grab and go sanwhiches and prepackaged deli stuff. Tons of raw food specialty stuff and also vegan junk food and hard to find stuff (tofutti sour cream), a big selection in one place! I agree that the produce is not dependable (I think the cooler is tempramental) but it is a great neighborhood spot, and yeah there's honey but just read the labels like in any other store. When I went vegan a store like this was only a fantasy, we've come a long way! |

I love Ranchos, the store is great, vegan and really raw oriented. Great for me as a rawfoodist.
But the good thing now is that Ranchos is also supporting local farms. They have a part of the fresh produce dedicated to La Milpa Organica, a small farm in Escondido. And they sell the stuff from the farm with no profit. They buy it and sell it at the same price. Whatever is lost is their lost. That's a very nice gesture from the store to support this local farm I think.
I'm not doing some special advertisement, I'm just a customer at Ranchos, and I volunteer on weekends at the farm La Milpa. So I know both, and I know the details of their deal. I think people who shop there should be more aware of it. You don't see that in any stores, not even OB Peoples'. |

I really love Rancho's market and the employees are extremely helpful. The hot bar is excellent, with the exception of the lasagna which I think is aweful but others seem to like it. The only problem other than some high prices is that the produce is often too wilty or expired to actually eat. It's an especially big problem because I have encouraged room mates to shop there and they try but then are completely turned off when they look through the produce, especially the lettuce greens, the onions, and the mushrooms. Other stuff if it's bad in organic section, you can just pick up a good one in the conventional section. |

I am all about supporting my local economy and anything that upholds the vegan ethic, but I was really put off by my Rancho's visit. The staff were hard to find and then, once found, inattentive and not very helpful. The produce section was poor and most of the fruits were past ripe. The prices were outrageous compared to my normal grocery OB's Co-op. I love that they're mainly vegan, I only wish it was more reasonable and the produce selection kept in better shape ... since it's in my neighborhood, I would rather shop there than OB if it weren't for the poor quality. |

Ranchos is great. Just great, so much better than the restaurant. Shop there, eat there. |

Ranchos is great. I could shop exclusively from there without much of a problem. Sometimes fresh fruit/vegetables go bad faster even in the conventional sections and the cost of berries doesn't fluctuate to lower rates. Rancho's hot deli is excellent--you get twice as much food for half the cost from Kung Food, the food is better quality, and it seems more centrally located, but there is not as much variety. I feel almost comfortable shopping at Rancho's w/o reading labels, but the presence of honey is disturbing and bothersome, even with signs saying the bees are not sugar-fed. I am not sure they guarantee the same for the products with contain honey. I know at least one kind of cereal there has honey and I am not sure what other products may contain honey.
When Rancho's gets rid of honey, I will give them a 5. |

I love Ranchos! I can't believe how incredibly lucky I am to have my very own Veg health food store in my neighborhood!!! Everyone is very friendly there, prices are reasonable, especially for a small market, and it's local. WOW, what a bargain! |

Okay, so the produce is wilted and spent, the deli is greasy, salty and the food is prepared by unconscious punks 99% of the time, but what really gets me is the sign saying 'VEGAN' outside...Marcos, don't ya know that vegans don't use HONEY or other ANIMAL PRODUCTS? (flesh pet food etc.)
I just can't get past the sad, old produce and the fact that the 'RAW' foods aren't really 'raw' a lot of the time (look deeper, read for yourself). |

rancho's market has a wide variety of things that are hard to find, (such as vegan marshmellows etc), and all sorts of fresh produce. the owners are also really friendly and i'd definitely much rather support rancho's then whole foods. |

Rancho's has dropped meat and improved the selection of Vegan/raw items. Not the best market for shopping but good produce selection. Always improving. |

Ranchos has the best Raw Food Selection
around. Just about every time I come to the store (about once a week), I find even more NEW raw items added to the already existing great selection. You guys are great! Thanks! |

Rancho's Natural Foods is great - their prices have gone down considerably and the store is almost entirely vegan. They have rid their shelves of all non-vegetarian items and are in the process of eliminating the remaining grocery stock of non-vegan items. The owners are vegan and have decided to carry only a small section of dairy products in the refrigerator (the majority of it is vegan) for neighborhood shoppers who are not vegan. They also chose to carry honey but are trying to eliminate products with honey in them. The store is looking better and better all the time, there is some GREAT prices on organic produce! The deli is getting much better too. The staff is super friendly and if you need a special order or suggest an item for them to carry, they will carry it. Some of their prices are more expensive than people's, some are cheaper, and all of their prices are lower than whole foods. Their store will only improve with customer support! |

while people's is not totally Vegan it is flesh free. That makes my shopping experience just a little better. I was told many times that I have been in rancho's that it's going to be all veg. the owner is vegan blah blha. At this point if they don't get rid of the chicken borth and tuna I am just going to take my money back to people's. Nothing personal I just feel better about it. |

I know the deli is not totally up and running yet but so far they have some good pre packed sandwichs. The store is cleaner and all around a better store than sunshine market was. It's main problem is same as sunshine. The prices are really high. Convience in my neighborhood is the main motivation i have. People's has better prices and no meat so I feel more comfortable at people's. Good start though! |
