About Favorites
Amarin has elegant atmosphere and high quality Thai food. All of the main entrees are available vegetarian with choices of mock "duck" and tofu. Highlights include spicy tofu salad, vegetarian satay appetizer and a $4.95 vegetarian lunch special. Excellent curries as well. (Located at the corner of University Ave. and Richmond St.) No favorites available.

pretty good
sfg it was a little on the expensive side, but tasty and fairly quick. we went to the point loma location
McAmarin
Morgan * I regret eating as many desperate meals at Amarin as I have. The food is very mediocre, but works well when I'm so hungry that cardboard and apple cores sound appetizing. For quick, cheap Thai food (that may or may not fit strict vegetarian standards--I have my doubts)--try Amarin. If you're looking for Thai food to get excited about, skip McAmarin and head for Celadon in Hillcrest.
There IS NO VEGAN food here (well, MAYBE the white rice is...MAYBE!)
Jon Vegans, don't be fooled! There is fish paste, oyster sauce, chicken broth etc. in the sauces and soups!

The curry sauces are from a pre-made mix that have sea creatures of all sorts in them (traditional Thai paste); they don't make it on site and therefore could NOT leave it out even if they wanted to! If really pressed (ask to see the container) you'll find out the truth when the staff show you the container. Tell them you have a shellfish and seafood allergy and see what reaction you get...speak slowly and clearly and with emphasis on how DANGEROUS it is for you to have these items in your food and they'll grudgingly come clean. Even the 'vegetarian' food is NOT 'vegetarian' let alone VEGAN!!! This place LIES to veg*ns repeatedly and I am so angry that they pass the food off as 'vegan' and 'vegetarian'.

The ONLY place I have successfully had truly vegan food at a Thai place is at Taste of Thai in Hillcrest and Celadon, right across the street.
sketchy
dentdedinosaure the satay is really good but i suspect the curries have fish paste. I asked to leave it out, but the yellow curry had a very strong fish flavor. perhaps it was a mistake. i have been there a few times with inconsistent results. although the satay was good everytime. i have almost given up on SD Thai food and wait till I go to LA.
best thai curry
jonquil holy jeezuz! amarin's red curry with veggies is easily on my top-ten list of best things i have ever put in my mouth. if you are into thai curry, and want it the way it should be, eat at amarin. also, an impressive wine selection, albiet not cheap. amarin also has many other vegan items, and the best selection of vegan appetizers. nice cozy atmosphere and wine bar next door.
Vegetarian Thai Food?
Lisa Has anyone checked to see if they don't use anchovy or fish sauce/powder in their sauces? Almost all thai food places do, and still call menu items 'vegetarian'. It's a little known fact. Google it!
Terrible F-
Joe The food is terrible since they had new owner last year. The price goes up while the portion &quality of the food and service goes down. The waitress (which I assume she's an owner) yells to other servers & customers. What kind of restaurant is that? Won't come back again.
great menu
Joanna i was lucky to enjoy this place, since i live out of town. The curry and ginger dishes were great. No one offers mock duck where i live, making that a very enjoyable addition.
2nd location in Mira Mesa!
Matt For those that live up north (or work up there like me!), there's also an Amarin Location in Mira Mesa/Sorrento Valley, at 6675 Mira Mesa Blvd. It's in the Food Court, and there's some other decent vegan options nearby...
Best Damn Thai food
Julia Best Damn Thai food in Hillcrest/North Park at least. Make a point to get the spring rolls!
eh, not so good
shabbychef yes, there are vegan items on the menu.
