California Community Rights Threatened by Bio-Tech Industry.Friday, June 16, 2006OCA The California Assembly's Agriculture Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on June 28th to consider the most recent "Monsanto Law," SB1056, an attack on the rights of counties to regulate genetically engineered (GE) crops. SB1056, would prevent cities and counties from passing any local regulation on seeds, including a prohibition on GE crops, while undermining existing local ordinances that restrict GE in agriculture, and prohibiting any future citizen initiatives relating to food and agriculture.
